Essex Bay is a coastal inlet located in Gloucester. It is part of the Essex River estuary, which drains into the Atlantic Ocean. The bay supports recreational activities such as boating, fishing, kayaking, and birdwatching. 

Essex Bay lies between Crane Beach and Wingaersheek Beach. Choate Island is in Essex Bay.
