About this Location

The Bruce G. Rinker Greenway Trail is a 2.5-mile all-purpose trail that begins at the First Responders Memorial Trailhead (just north of the intersection of Wilson Mills and SOM Center Roads) and runs to White Road. It weaves through the Village’s industrial park, past the Mayfield Branch Library, and to the Village’s recreational area which includes softball fields, soccer fields, tennis courts, bocce courts, volleyball courts, Parkview Pool, and The Grove Amphitheatre. With only one at-grade crossing, the BGR Greenway ultimately makes it to the North Chagrin Reservation of the Cleveland Metroparks.

The Greenway Trail was designed to weave through the backyards of private property owners in non-developable setback areas. Construction funding of over $1 million was also provided by NOACA; property donations valued over $275,000 were made by private property owners; Mayfield Village funded the remainder of the project. The Trail is maintained by the Mayfield Village Service Department. All maintenance costs are covered by Mayfield Village. The First Responders Memorial Trailhead is part of the Village’s Bruce G. Rinker Greenway Trail network. In 2015, Mayfield Village Fire Chief Eugene Carcioppolo successfully applied for and received a 17’ tall steel beam from the World Trade Center destroyed on September 11, 2001. The beam is the cornerstone of the Memorial Trailhead and is flanked by two granite spires, representing the Twin Towers. The Memorial is just to the north of the fire station and includes dedicated parking as well as a separate area for flag ceremonies and other patriotic occasions. The Memorial Trailhead was dedicated in a ceremony on September 11, 2018.
