It can be very hot and humid in this location, with lots of mosquitos and other pesky insects, so bug spray and sunscreen is recommended. A map of the trails (available at the trailhead) can be extremely helpful. Also, bottled water and a first aid kit could come in handy.
There are 12 trails that are connected to one another. Together, they add up to about 3.4 miles of trails. As of 4/9/24, the "Birding" trail is closed. (The other open trails are just as suitable for birdwatching.) Cormorants can be observed roosting in trees near the pond that the "Helen's Way" trail winds by.
The trails range from an easy walk to a more difficult climb. The trail near the pond area, which is close to the main entrance, is an easy walk. To get up above the tree line, some climbing will be necessary.
