Pacific Grove--Bayview neighborhoods

Pacific Grove, California 93950

Tips for Birding

Bayview neighborhoods is an area of mostly single-home residences in the northern part of Pacific Grove, lying east of 17-Mile drive and north of Lighthouse Ave. Bayview and Del Monte prominent streets in the center of the neighborhood. The Pacific Grove golf course separates it from the Esplanade Park vicinty neighborhoods. Homes are on large lots but most of the pine canopy is gone, with ornamental plantings and grassy lawns common. Coverage by birders is simply walking the streets, as during the annual Christmas Bird Count. Unless one lives here or nearby, the observer was likely in these neighborhoods chasing a rarity at someone's feeder or backyard.

Birds of Interest

Good visibility here for migrant raptors in season, and flocks of Zonotrichia sparrows in winter. Sparrow flocks may attract rarer sparrows (such as White-throated) and vagrants have occured in flocks (Green-tailed Towhee wintered once). Other vagrants include Rose-breasted Grosbeak and Brown Thrasher, and were seen only when invited to a local backyard.
