Tips for Birding

Driving the road slowly making frequent stops to scan and listen is the best way to bird this area. Early morning or evenings from late April through mid-July are the most productive times for a visit.

Birds of Interest

The fields on either side of the road are good for fallow and regenerating old field birds, including: Upland Sandpiper (at least formerly), Northern Harrier, American Kestrel, Brown Thrasher, Eastern Bluebird, Clay-colored, Field, Grasshopper and Vesper sparrows, Eastern Towhee, Bobolink and Eastern Meadowlark. Sandhill Crane is frequently both heard and observed from the roadside.
