Two miles of hiking trails wind through upland pine-oak-hemlock forests, fields, old orchards, and silver maple floodplain forest along the Contoocook River. The terrain is relatively flat. Because of the wide variety of habitats, wildlife observation opportunities are excellent at McCabe Forest.
McCabe Forest is best accessed from the parking area on the east side of NH-202, about a mile north of the center of Antrim. There is a property sign and kiosk in this location. The parking area can accommodate approximately eight cars. Winter Access: The parking at this property is not plowed during winter.
There are more than two miles of trails at McCabe Forest. Several different walking loops are possible, with the longest at 1.7 miles long. All trails are marked with yellow blazes. The terrain is relatively flat, but some areas (especially along the Contoocook River) may be muddy during wetter times of the year.
