About Camel's Hump State Forest

Camel’s Hump State Forest consists of two separate “blocks”. The Howe Block is a popular destination for mountain bikers. The Steven’s Block gets very few visitors. Its lower elevations are managed for wildlife habitat and timber management, while on the ridge, the Long Trail traverses the property.

The lower elevations of Stevens Block are managed in cooperation with an active group of volunteers. With the guidance of our foresters, they have helped enhance habitats for a variety of wildlife species.

The Howe Block is a popular destination for mountain bikers with approximately seven miles of trail that link in to additional trails on private land. These trails are managed in cooperation with the Mad River Riders, a local chapter of the Vermont Mountain Bike Association. Check out the Mad River Riders website for more information about riding in the area.

Camel’s Hump State Forest is managed as part of the Camel’s Hump Management Unit. The Agency of Natural Resources has recently completed an update of the Long-Range Management Plan for the Camel’s Hump Management Unit.

The iconic summit of Camel’s Hump is actually part of Camel’s Hump State Park.
