There are two small spaces on the west side of NM-518 where you might carefully pull off to view the pond. One is a gated ranch road entrance north of the pond, and the other is even smaller but directly west of the pond. Be careful not to block the gate to the former, whereas the latter can be problematic in low light or heavy southbound traffic from the State Park. Also, the only trees around the pond are those running northeast to southwest along the southern shoreline, and they can block your view a bit from the more southerly pullout. There is no public access to the pond.
The pond appears to not have been as severely affected by the ongoing drought as many bodies of water in New Mexico.

Mallette’s Pond, at most 3 acres when full, is located on the west side of NM-518 between Las Vegas and Storrie Lake State Park, or less than 0.4 miles north of County Road A14A and about 0.8 miles south of the Park entrance.
