Pigeon Lake--Blind Channel

Pigeon Lake--Blind Channel

Tips for Birding

Like nearby Gannon Narrows, Blind Channel is one of the first locations in Pigeon Lake to become ice-free in spring. Waterfowl viewing is best between mid-March and mid-April. Fall viewing is best following the passage of a cold front any time from late October through November. From the boat launch, a somewhat limited but otherwise unobstructed view of Pigeon Lake is offered. All three scoters, Long-tailed Duck, Greater Scaup and Bonaparte's Gulls may be observed from this vantage point.

Birds of Interest

Blind Channel is a great place to view waterbirds, particularly waterfowl, in both spring and fall. Twenty-four species of waterfowl have been recorded from this vantage, including all three scoter species. The location is also a good one for observing both raptor and passerine migration, particularly in fall.

About this Location

The boat launch and dock are both privately owned by Elim Lodge. Viewing by birders is tolerated, provided it doesn't disturb or interfere with access by guests of the lodge. Access to any other areas off the main road, including all road/street access between Fire Rte 96E and the boat launch, requires permission from the lodge manager at the lodge office.
