Plato Creek Marsh

Plato Creek Marsh

Tips for Birding

Early morning and/or evening visits are likely to be more rewarding. Due to traffic associated with the waste transfer station, it is best to time visits before 9am or after 7pm during the summer (after 5pm September 15 to May 14) or on Wednesdays and Thursdays, when the transfer station is closed.

Birds of Interest

This location is most notable for its breeding marsh birds, including Pied-billed Grebe, Virginia Rail, Sora, Common Gallinule, both American and Least bitterns and one of the largest Marsh Wren 'colonies' in the county.

About this Location

Plato Creek Marsh is bisected by Asphodel 6th Line Rd. There is no room to park a vehicle on the causeway, but there is limited parking on both shoulders and either side of the entrance to the '6th Line [waste] Transfer Station' immediately north of the marsh. Be sure not to block the transfer station entrance!
