About this Location

This 389-acre wildlife area is located in Southington Township in western Trumbull County. It lies west of Phalanx Mills Herner Road and extends to the Portage County line. Access and parking are provided from Phalanx Mills Herner Road, approximately 0.6 of a mile northwest of the OH-534 intersection.

The property is comprised primarily of wet woodlands with a mix of young forest and second-growth hardwoods. Approximately 60 acres of open wetlands are also present. The area is mostly flat and wet with small streams and ditches throughout. Both Tinker Creek and Eagle Creek flow through the property as well as tributaries of each. A 6.5-acre fishing pond can be found on the eastern side of the area near the parking lot.

The Brook Wildlife Area was purchased in December 2013 with funds secured from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, State Wildlife Grants Program. The area will be used as a public hunting, trapping, and fishing area.

Wildlife found in the area include common forest and wetland species. White-tailed deer, wild turkey, squirrel, woodcock, and cottontail rabbit can be found. Waterfowl and other wetland birds can be found, as well as other migratory species as they travel to or through the region. Furbearers such as mink, raccoon, skunk, opossum, muskrat, and beaver are also present. Largemouth bass, bluegill, and channel catfish (stocked) are present in the pond.
