Tips for Birding

Hale Center WTP stands for Water Treatment Plant--which is another term for the city's sewage treatment or wastewater facilities.

The ponds for this water treatment plant are entirely visible from County Road 185.

Obviously, don't trespass!!!

The ponds can be fruitful for ducks and shorebirds when the playas (shallow depressions that occasionally become shallow lakes with rainfall) in the surrounding rural areas are dry.

Birds of Interest

Waterfowl, Wilson's Phalarope, shorebirds, Black-crowned Night-Herons, and occasionally Black Terns or Franklin's Gulls.
