Cavern Rock Park was acquired as conservation land by the Town of Weymouth in 1968. It features numerous rocky outcroppings, many covered with moss. Deep within the property, don’t miss the old stone wall; it extends for quite a distance!
This land is within the region of the Massachuseuk (or Massachusett) Native American people.
The forest here is primarily oak, with some maple, beech, and black walnut, plus pine and the occasional hemlock, and plenty of greenbrier. The land drains to Whitman’s Pond nearby and lies within the watershed of the Weymouth Back River. The Weymouth Back River flows for about 10 miles through Weymouth and empties into the Atlantic Ocean at Hingham Bay, just south of Grape Island and Slate Island.
The property has a 0.7 mile loop. Given the properties "unusually rocky" nature, those who struggle with rockier terrains may find this loop challenging.
The AllTrails website has a map and description of a hike at Cavern Rock Park.
