Tips for Birding

A map program will try to take you to the lake off Texas State Highway 16 north of Goldthwaite.

But it is suggested to access the lake off U.S. Highway 183 via County Road 108. Take a right off County Road 108 onto County Road 109 and wind through the woods slowly, looking and listening for birds.

Where CR 109 start up a hill—on the east end of the dam—be ready to pull off on the left side of the road to be able to view whatever water might be in the lake for shorebirds and waterfowl.

Birds of Interest

If there is water in the lake, there could be shorebirds and waterfowl during the winter time.

About this Location

The lake and the property around the lake are privately owned. It is possible to drive the roads but do not trespass.

There is one place where is it possible see into the lake—on the east end of the dam—and one might be able to sit and scope from that area. But, again, do not trespass.

The lake has not had any water in it to speak of for a long time. As of March, 2024, it was a dry and weedy lake bed with a tiny puddle of water trickling towards the dam after a wet winter and some winter rains.

Notable Trails

None. Do not trespass on the four-wheeler roads which go into the woods.
