About this Location

Barnesville Memorial Park is a city park with a pool, sporting fields, amphitheater, playground, and paved parking. It is near downtown, so most amenities are available. The west end of the park has a gravel walking trail around a 12-acre pond surrounded by woods. It is open 6 AM to 11 PM.

Notable Trails

The Ray Palmer Hiking Trail is a well-maintained crushed gravel trail that loops around the lake. The trail is along the back of the park after first passing the pool and playgrounds and descending to the lake. It is surrounded by mature forest; one end features a small marshy area that attracts a wide variety of species even in winter.
The trail is accessible and mostly smooth and level. A good portion would be well suited to those with difficulty walking. Although it is a loop around the lake, it might require an out-and-back approach as there is a short steep section where the trail leaves the lakeside.
