Birds of Interest

Long-billed Thrasher, Crested Caracara, lots of songbirds in spring, Hutton’s Vireo, Common Pauraque. 293 species of birds; 41 species of warblers.

About this Location

Warbler Woods is 124 acres of varied habitats covering Pecan Gap sediments with gently rolling topography. The sanctuary is near the convergence of three Ecological Regions: South Texas Plains, Blackland Prairie, and Edwards Plateau and is also near the Post Oak Savannah region. It is located about four miles down a dip from the Balcones Escarpment, at the northwest corner of Guadalupe County.

  • 80+ acres of woodlands (savannah, heavy understory, and brush)
  • Three water wells
  • Three small permanent ponds and one that fills with heavy rain
  • Many water features and feeding stations for animals
  • Roads and trails throughout
  • Four primarily dry creek beds form the headwaters of Town Creek
  • Artifacts from 1800s German settlers including square nails and a 12-ft dug cistern
  • Stone artifacts from early Native Americans
