Sarnia--Canatara Park

Sarnia--Canatara Park

Tips for Birding

During spring and fall migration, start early in the morning. Check the beach first for waterfowl, gulls and shorebirds, then loop around Lake Chipican on the soft surface trail. Also check the wooded area known as Tarzanland and the the top of Hawkwatch Hill (later in the morning). Experienced birders will challenge themselves to identify birds in flight from the West Beach and Parking Lot.

Birds of Interest

Migrating songbirds, waterfowl and raptors.

About this Location

Approximately 50 species of birds breed within the park. During the peak of spring migration between 75 and 100 species are recorded each day. Less than 30 species are found during the coldest winter months. Parking and entry to the Park is free. There are washroom buildings throughout the park but none of them are equipped with power doors. The paved trails are wide and well maintained while the soft surface trails are generally covered in wood chips.
