The Blue Hole swim area is free for birding, all posted fee signs are only for swimming so feel free to walk on in. Arrive early in swim season, as crowds scare birds away later in the day. The parking area and loop around sports field can be birded from the car, there are pulloffs to avoid blocking traffic.
Endangered Golden-cheeked Warblers (GCWA) nest here in the summer. There are usually at least two males holding territory and singing throughout spring; one between map points E and F, and another around M and P.
Eastern Bluebirds, Painted Buntings, Blue Grosbeak, and Scissor-tailed Flycatchers can be seen around the athletic fields in spring/summer.
Red-eyed Vireo, Yellow-throated Vireo, Yellow-throated Warbler, and Acadian Flycatcher and be found along the creekside in spring/summer.
Barred Owls sometimes roost in the swimming area during the off season when crowds are low.
Blue Hole Regional Park is open every day from 8 am to sunset. Admission is completely free. Access to the area is open for visiting. The Blue Hole Swim Area (3 acres) is open for swimming starting every day in May until Labor Day, and weekends in September - fees apply for swimming. Other recreational amenities include 4 miles of hiking trails, bike paths, picnic areas, playgrounds, sports fields, and more.
