About this Location

Embark into the Wareham River and upper Buzzards Bay from Tempest Knob, a town-owned public boat ramp in Wareham. With a paved ramp, a dock for temporary tie-ups, and a stretch of sandy shoreline for kayaking launching, Tempest Knob is a convenient and affordable place for all types of boaters to access the Bay.

Updated in 2014, the concrete ramp at Tempest Knob is a great launch option for boaters who want to head toward upper Buzzards Bay and the Cape Cod Canal.

Tempest Knob is located on the Wareham River, just across the water from Wareham Center. Boaters who launch from here can quickly reach fishing hotspots like The Narrows, located just up the river, or Wings Neck and Mashnee Flats in upper Buzzards Bay. Paddlers can set off on kayaks or paddleboards to explore the coves and shores around nearby Parkwood Beach.

The Wareham River is a destination for spring striper fishing. Juvenile stripers called “schoolies” begin arriving in late April, heading upstream to chase migrating river herring. The river is also a popular place to catch bluefish snappers in late summer and fall.

Tempest Knob Boat Ramp is managed by the City of Wareham.
