About this Location

Bremen Long Island is located in Muscongus Bay. It is part of the town of Bremen and has a population of about 20 people. The island is accessible only by water and has no bridges or ferry service. It covers an area of 864 acres and features a rich undeveloped forest, rocky shores, pebble beaches and tidal pools. The island is home to the Berger Preserve, a 180-acre conservation area donated by Daniel and Suzanne Goldenson. The preserve has a two-mile loop trail that showcases the diverse habitats and wildlife of the island, including eel grass beds, mussel bars, deer, eagles and harbor seals.

The Berger Preserve features a rich undeveloped forest and half a mile of shoreline, including several pebble beaches and tidal pools.

The Berger Preserve is easily accessible at any tide by canoe or kayak. An orange triangular reflector designates the trailhead, and can be seen from the water. The trip from the Bremen town landing to the preserve is approximately 0.75 miles.
