About this Location

Once a farmstead that was selectively lumbered and cleared for agricultural purposes, Road's End Wildlife Sanctuary, 190 acres, proves that the land can return to its natural state if given the chance. A white pine forest now stands in an old field and pastures have become beaver meadows.

  • The old cellar hole in the field serves as a breeding pond for Wood Frogs and Spotted Salamanders.
  • Bear claw marks can be seen on the American beech trees.
  • Rock walls, pine woodlands, beaver ponds, and a previously harvested forest provide clues to past land use and nature's recovery.

Notable Trails

Explore 1 mile of trails at Road's End Wildlife Sanctuary. Two gentle loop trails through the fields, forests, and along a brook quickly transport to you the "middle of nowhere."

Look for beaver activity in the meadows and Wood Frogs and salamanders in the ponds.
