Tucked into a secluded corner of Shawnee Hills (North of Dublin), Lucy Depp Nature Preserve, owned and cared for by Columbus Parks & Recreation is pint-sized, but big in character. It is on a point near the O'Shaugennesy Nature Preserve and the Ohio State University Mussle Research Facility, where the east lake connects with the Scioto River above the dam. Lucy Depp was the daughter of a black owner of much of the Shawnee Hills. He moved there and bought the land after being freed in his Virginia owner's will. He spent most of his adult life working with the underground railroad on the river and in its caves that were sealed with the creation of the dam.
