Childrens Woods and Carey Park guide and mapThere is parking and trail access at the intersection of Childrens Way and Carey Road.
The Childrens Woods property was given to the town by bequest in1936 for future generations to study and enjoy. Donor Albert Annette envisioned the land being used to study natural history and inspire appreciation of the aesthetic beauty it holds. He intended the land to be sued by all children, regardless of race or creed, especially as an integral part of their education in nature study.
The property is augmented by Carey Park to its south, which was donated to the town in 1972 by the Jaffrey Outing club.
Childrens Woods received financial support through a trust fund provided by George Gordon in 1975 and managed by the Conservation Commission, In addition to the Commission, stewards for the property include long-time Jaffrey resident Paul Saint Pierre, who maintains and monitors the trials and removes trash, and Aavid Edscorn, a local Eagle Scout who blazed a new trail in 2007 and added signage in several key locations.
Hiking, cross-country skiing, and snowshoeing are welcome.
There are two clearly blazed trails on the property; Childrens Woods Trail and the Carey Park Trail. Both are maintained by the Jaffrey Conservation Commission and utilized by local school groups.
