The Scammell Bridge, also known as the Colonel Alexander Scammell Memorial Bridge, is a bascule bridge that spans the Bellamy River. It connects Boston Harbor Road (US-4) to Cedar Point Road in Durham. The bridge was built in 1935 as part of a Public Works Administration project to improve the road from the seacoast to Concord. It was named after Alexander Scammell, a Revolutionary War hero who served as Adjutant General of the Continental Army and died from wounds he received at the Battle of Yorktown. The bridge is the oldest of the three remaining bascule bridges in New Hampshire and has a pedestrian walkway that offers views of the river.
