About this Location

Twenty acres of naturally developing tributary swamp on Durbin Run in Hocking County are now under the protection of the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, thanks to a gift from Dr. Francis and Mrs. Joyce Kessler.

  • Emergent swamp with good wildlife viewing opportunities.
  • Largely unimproved site, small pull-off area
  • Observation deck for viewing

A variety of wetland-dwelling plants thrive in the swamp, including buttonbush and bur-marigold. A healthy population of beaver also calls the swamp home. During the spring and fall migration period, the preserve offers excellent waterfowl viewing.

From Lancaster, travel US-33 East for about 4.4 miles. Turn left at Horn’s Mill Road exit and follow for about 6 miles to the parking area on the right side of the road. (Horn’s Mill Road turns into Hide-Away-Hills Road at Hocking County line.)
