Preble County Historical Nature Preserve websiteThe Preble County Historical Society has over 5 miles of trails to explore, which are broken down into 5 trail sections/loops. Their website has information for each trail loop accessible from the home screen top menu. The trails page also includes a YouTube video link.
The trail system is well maintained, well-marked, and very clean and diverse. It wanders past large pollinator and grass fields, forested areas, and Ackerman Creek. There is also a pond close to the trailhead. Access to the western Orange and Green loops requires crossing the creek, but rocks placed across make it relatively easy to traverse. The site has been recognized for its efforts in restoration and is a certified wildlife habitation.
There is a gate at the entrance that is open from dawn until dusk, although it is not staffed until 10:00 am. There is ample parking and four portable restrooms, as well as picnic tables and several buildings for education, wedding or event venues, and historical society use. You will find trail maps in an acrylic box in front of the building by the trailhead.
