This cemetery is located between Main Street and North Street in Claremont, NH. It was originally named Ascutney cemetery but the name was changed due to confusion with cemeteries in Vermont; one being Ascutney Cemetery in Windsor and Ascutneyville Cemetery in Ascutney. The name was changed to Mountain View because there was a great view of Mount Ascutney from the cemetery before the trees grew to their current size.
In addition, certain death records have a burial location of the Russian Orthodox Cemetery in Claremont, NH. The Russian community prefers to all be buried near one another. At one time, there was an area where they were buried and the gravestones are all engraved in Russian/Ukrainian. This area was known within the community as the Russian Orthodox Cemetery. As the cemetery grew and more burials were added, the area known as the Russian Orthodox Cemetery became Section C in Mountain View cemetery. There are also others buried in Section C that are not of Russian descent.
