West Cross Road Clarksburg, Massachusetts 01247
In the early spring, this hotspot can be productive for American Woodcock. During the spring migration season and summer breeding season, this hotspot can be particularly reliable for Northern Waterthrush and other warblers that are attracted to the shrubby habitat of the field/wetland edge. In the winter months, search for Sparrows, especially American Tree Sparrows which are common along the walking trail to the school.
The Peter A. Cook Veterans Memorial Field is adjacent to the Clarksburg Elementary School. The field features a baseball/softball field, a basketball court, and a small pavilion. There is a small trail leading to the elementary school and the south and eastern portions of the field are surrounded by a very large wetland which can be very productive for birds. There is a small parking lot for the field on West Cross Road View Map. Most of the time there is not a restroom here, however, sometimes there will be a portable toilet during the summer months.
