This site is owned by Hiawatha First Nation and was previously leased to and operated by Ontario Parks. It is also the home of the sacred Serpent Mounds, an Aboriginal historic site with evidence of occupation and use spanning more than 2000 years. Currently, the site is not operating and closed to visitors. Trespassers will be prosecuted.

In the past, this location offered good birding during migration for land birds and a good vantage of Rice Lake for migrant waterbirds.
