Cemeteries, especially in the arid, tree-less plains areas of western Texas, are usually great places to find birds. The cemeteries oftentimes have trees and frequently plots are watered by family members giving the birds access to sprinklers and wet grass with more insect life.

This particular cemetery is large and has numerous larger, older trees.

The downside to this location is its proximity to a busy highway, making it hard to bird-by-ear.

Be sure to check the large fields at the far end of the cemetery (away from the highway) for ground-feeding birds. 

In addition to birding the cemetery, birders are encouraged to cross Hwy. 87 very carefully (looking both directions several times since this is a very busy highway) and look at the water features on the city golf course. Those water features are visible directly behind the pro shop and from the end of a road running a short distance west from the pro shop.

American Pipit, American Goldfinch, Chipping and Lark Sparrow in winter. Scissor-tailed Flycatcher and Painted Bunting in spring and summer.

This is a pretty underbirded location with only eight checklists total in eBird. Additional effort to fill in data for this site would be much appreciated, especially in a county where there are only five official eBird hotspots for the whole county.

The cemetery roads might be suitable for a wheelchair or scooter.
