A wooded residential neighborhood. Most birding is from roadsides, best done by walking. Parking is on roadsides only. A popular area for local residents to go for a walk, and speed limits are low, so walking along roads is generally safe, but of course it's always important to be aware of traffic. Early mornings are best.
The El Paso Country Club golf course is along the eastern edge of this neighborhood. Although the golf course itself is off limits, it can be viewed from public roads. Note that this golf course is a separate hotspot.
Some of the better streets in this neighborhood are Fairway, Meadowlark, and Vista del Monte.
Much of the upper valley area is full of well-wooded neighborhoods that can be good birding almost year round, although this neighborhood is perhaps one of the best. A variety of species can be found during migration, and including (occasionally) out-of-range eastern species. These neighborhoods often host a good variety of uncommon wintering species, most notably one of the few records of Gray Silky-Flycatcher for the United States in the winter of 1994/1995.
The boundaries of this neighborhood are shown in the Google Maps satellite image to the right. On the east it is bounded by the (off-limits) country club golf course and the canal just east of Olmos/Lazy Willow drives, on the north by Country Club Road, and on the west by the New Mexico state line. The southern boundary follows the winding canal just south of Sunset Road.
Mostly roadside birding. Multiple canals follow the eastern and southern boundaries of the neighborhood and are suitable walking trails.
