Peterborough--Walmart stormwater ponds

Peterborough--Walmart stormwater ponds

About this Location

This hotspot includes the Parkway Trail from Chemong Road to Hilliard Street, the two storm water pond adjacent to the trail, and Bernardo Park.

Parking is available in Bernardo Park (six regular and two accessible parking spots), a small community park with tennis courts, a baseball diamond, some open space, and a play structure.

An accessible bridge crosses a drainage channel to the Parkway Trail, near the storm water ponds. This section of the Parkway Trail is paved, and therefore wheelchair accessible.

The shorelines of the ponds are heavily vegetated with Phragmites. You can view the ponds by taking the gravel maintenance roads to the top of the berms.

Notable Trails

The Parkway Trail (paved) runs from Chemong Rd. to Hilliard St. adjacent to the storm water ponds. A rough trail crosses the hill behind the ponds and cuts through a thicket. If you continue all the way to the end of the trail at the northeast end of the larger pond, you will have to ford a drainage channel to get to the trail that leads to access from Evans Drive.
