The Maine State Aquarium is located on the shore of West Boothbay Harbor. It is owned and operated by the Maine Department of Marine Resources (DMR), which conducts research and monitoring of the marine resources and environment of the Gulf of Maine. The aquarium showcases fish and invertebrates native to the region, such as lobsters, cod, herring, sea stars, and sea urchins.
