Lake Gray Ghost

Lake Gray Ghost

Tips for Birding

This is an active excavation site during the summer and fall months, so viewing is currently by roadside only.

Park at the east end of the main pit (south pit) off the highway and scan the main pond for shorebirds and waterfowl.

My hope is that the site will become more accessible when the construction project ends.

Birds of Interest

A very good location for returning shorebirds in late summer and fall. Dabbling ducks and divers use the pits during fall winter and spring months.

About this Location

This location is currently a Corp of Engineers excavation site. Roadside viewing only at this time.

There are currently three large pits that hold water most of the year. They begin drying out in late summer and are very good locations for finding returning shorebirds.

Features

  • Roadside viewing

  • Restrooms on site

  • Wheelchair accessible trail

  • Entrance fee
