Buffalo Creek Trail, Carrollton

Buffalo Creek Trail, Carrollton

Tips for Birding

Numerous Eastern bluebirds frequent the field between the parking area and the nature preserve, and you can enjoy their antics from a bench on the boardwalk in the pollinator garden.  This is also a good place to watch pileated woodpeckers working on the snags in the adjacent woods.

About this Location

Buffalo Creek is a nature preserve adjacent to the Carrollton Greenbelt. It is maintained by the West GA Chapter of the Georgia Native Plant Society. Park at the Old Newnan Rd. Greenbelt lot, walk down the hill on the Greenbelt, and the preserve's pollinator garden will be on your left. The preserve features deciduous forest with a rich understory of native ferns, wildflowers, and shrubs, as well as meadows.

Notable Trails

Walk past the pollinator garden along the dirt road, and turn left once you cross the creek. The trail follows the creek for half a mile, past an old grist mill. When you reach the meadow, a beautiful pedestrian bridge on your left will take you to the other side of the creek, where native azaleas and magnolias have been planted.

The Greenbelt section is wheelchair accessible but the rest of the trails are dirt.
