About this Location

Greenhalge Point offers a panoramic view of the reservoir and the surrounding hills, forests, and wildlife. The point is named after John Greenhalge, a local farmer who donated the land to the state in 1897. The point is accessible by a short trail from the parking lot at Gate 35 and is open to the public from dawn to dusk. The point is a popular destination for hikers, bikers, birdwatchers, and photographers.

Wachusett Reservoir, along with the Quabbin Reservoir and Ware River, is an unfiltered source of high-quality water for the Massachusetts Water Resources Authority water supply system. The 65-billion-gallon reservoir covers 108 square miles with 37 miles of shoreline. Recreational activities are regulated and limited to protect 3 million people’s drinking water.
