Lake Wallace

Belchertown, Massachusetts 01007

About this Location

Lake Wallace is a small lake located in Belchertown. It is mostly a swamp, but it has a nice and quiet trail that goes around it. The trail is about 1.3 miles long and easy to hike. It is marked with orange blazes and white arrows. The trail starts by the baseball field behind the police station and splits into two trails just over the bridge. The left trail is the main one. The trail is well maintained up to US-202, but from there, it is very overgrown and sometimes has fallen trees. To complete the loop, you have to walk back to the baseball field by passing the police station, the old school, and the skatepark.

One of the attractions of Lake Wallace is the Sensory Trail, which is an accessible trail that has two observation decks overlooking the lake. The Sensory Trail is designed to stimulate the senses of sight, sound, smell, touch, and movement. It has different features such as musical instruments, wind chimes, birdhouses, tactile panels, and interpretive signs. The Sensory Trail is part of the Belchertown Heritage Trails network, which aims to connect the town's natural and cultural resources.
