Carver Lake

Carver Lake, Texas 76351

Tips for Birding

It has been a good spot for woodpeckers (9 species) and decent spot for warblers (11 species) on the right day. Like any spot in this area, if you hit it right, it can be good. There have been 20 species of sparrows and 20 species of waterfowl seen at this location. Winter birding is probably the best season, but the number of waterfowl can be misleading. There are many days in the winter that I bird here and don't see any waterfowl.

About this Location

Carver Lake is a small lake that is stocked with rainbow trout by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department.

The lake itself is not that great unless in migration or ducks will gather after cold fronts, especially early fall. The water is muddy (similar to Lake Kickapoo) and better for waders than ducks. The woodlands below the dam can be good in migration and winter.

Notable Trails

There is one trail that winds through the wooded area. You can access this at the west end of the dam. Walk to the fence line and turn right. It is not marked.
