Tips for Birding

From Buford Highway follow the main park road straight for one mile to GPS Coordinates: 34.06138,-84.04579. Parking is free.
The best birding starts in the corner of the parking lot across from the playground. See trail description below.

Birds of Interest

Prothonotary Warbler nest in the park April through June. The best place to see them is from the viewing platform at the south end of the main wetland pond. Views 8-10 feet away are common throughout the nesting season.

About this Location

This is a 300-acre county park with an open wetland, and both wet and dry forest. Water level of main pond varies quite a bit, depending on rainfall.
Public restrooms are available near the parking lot at the start and end of the trip.  There are no facilities on the trail. Bringing a bottle of water along is highly recommended.

Notable Trails

The best birding is along the boardwalk trail and Ivy Creek Greenway. It is about 1.6 miles from the parking lot to the power lines at the south end of the park. See Park signs for details upon arrival. This is an out and back trail and usually takes 2 - 4 hours to bird round trip depending on bird activity.
