There is a constant low flow from the springs into a small canyon creek bed. The springs are in a well kept, well watered park like habitat under large cottonwoods. This makes a good nesting area for Summer Tanagers, Orchard Orioles and Pyrrhuloxia. At dusk many Lesser Nighthawks flow through the area.

The property was owned by minimalist sculptor Donald Judd, and later bought and operated as a non-profit entity.Chinati Hot Springs has been under the current management for more than 10 years. The cabins are rustic and clean, with an oasis vibe.
