Tips for Birding

There are two distinct areas on Lobdell Reserve, one accessible from Mounts Road and the other from Lobdell Road via Battee Road (Disk Golf Course parking).

The Mounts Road access has much better parking, a few picnic tables, and a pit toilet.

This large reserve has a variety of birding habitats and is one of the better locations for sparrows in Licking County. With the cattail wetlands, there should even be ammodramus sp. in the proper season, although I’ve never looked for them. The trails are mowed, can get muddy, and must be shared with horses. However, the birding is good enough to overcome these obstacles. Habitats include grass, a small wetland, and riparian woodlands in a deep ravine.
