Eurasian Tree Sparrow
Svínoy is an interesting place, especially in migration periods and after windy periods. A number of rare visitors have been spotted here. The boat lands normally on the western side of the islands (see map image), and then there is a walk of approx 1.5 km over to the center of the village, passing wide fields on the way (separate hotspot). The gardens in the village may hide rarities. The village is the location of a quite recently established population of Eurasian Tree Sparrow, coexisting with House Sparrow.
Transport: Svínoy is only accessible by passenger boat from Hvannasund (see schedule in link above) or by helicopter (see schedule in link above). Please note that waves and wind may make the conditions for coming ashore in Svinoy (and Fugloy) quite tough even in reasonably good weather conditions. Please also note that local passengers or freight may have priority for helicopter.
No public transport on Svínoy itself. Take walking time into consideration when your schedule is planned.
