About this Location

This hotspot is a rural roadway, with fast-moving traffic, and is surrounded by private property. Please park safely on the side of the road and watch for oncoming traffic.

There are 3 ditches at this site which may be worth looking at for birds like Great Blue Heron or waterfowl, like Wood Duck. Ditch #1 runs north-south along the western edge of the location, Ditch #2 runs east-west along 116th Avenue before turning north along 64th Street, and Ditch #2 runs north-south along the eastern edge of the location.

Otherwise, the fields are excellent locations in both winter and during migration. During the spring, look for shorebirds, including both Yellowleg species, in the wet fields created by snow melt and spring rains. In the spring and fall, look for flocks of Canada Geese, as there may be other species, like Snow Goose, mixed in. Other possible finds include flocks of blackbirds, with the possibility of Rusty Blackbird, being mixed in with more common species, like Red-winged Blackbird, Common Grackle, and Brown-headed Cowbird. Other blackbird species found here later in spring include Bobolink and Eastern Meadowlark. Finally, search the fields in winter for flocks of Snow Bunting and Horned Lark, with the possibility of Lapland Longspur mixed in.
