About this Location

Visit the Mattocks Archaeological Ruin created by the Mimbres and Salado Native Americans, of the Mogollon. A rich collection of early settlement history of natives, Spanish, Anglo, of the Mimbres River Valley.

Located near Mile Marker 4, one block east of NM-35 at 12 Sage Drive in Mimbres. This National Historic Register archaeological site ​is open to the public.

Tour two 1880s-era territorial adobe homes, the Benjamin Gooch Ranch House and the Dr. Granville Wood Ranch House. Visit room displays in the Mimbres Museum and the horse-drawn surrey display. Enjoy the many bird species drawn by the native seed garden, in-season hummingbirds, and a butterfly memorial garden. The gift shop offers a unique variety of merchandise. Picnic, among the mature apricot trees and under the covered porch.  Stroll down to the year-round flowing, life-giving Mimbres River.

The suggested entrance donation is $3 / person.

Notable Trails

Dress for the weather to hike 2 trails, the Mattocks Ruin interpretive and the trail to the Mimbres River.

The 0.25-mile interpretive trail is wheelchair accessible.
