Birds of Interest

As one of the few places in Ward County in the Far West Texas desert region to have water, this hotspot is a winter waterfowl magnet. Ducks can be found here in fairly good numbers with Ruddy Ducks. American Coot and Killdeer prevalent year-round.

Black-necked Stilts are summer-time birds while other shorebirds (Wilson's Phalarope, Spotted Sandpiper, Lesser and Greater Yellowlegs and Baird's and Least Sandpipers) are mostly passing through as migrants.

Western Kingbird is a prevalent summer resident as are Barn and, to a lesser degree, Cliff Swallows.
