East Sullivan is located on Franklin Pierce Highway (NH-9). A wetland on Otter Creek flows adjacent to local streets in the town. The town was named for General John Sullivan, a hero of the American Revolution, and incorporated in 1787. East Sullivan is home to the Sullivan Congregational Church, which was built in 1846 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The church also features a monument dedicated in 1867 to the soldiers lost in the Civil War, the first of its kind in New Hampshire.
