The farm fields on the side of the road can provide good birding, but your best luck will be to continue down Canal Lane until you reach the canal itself and the Guadalupe River.
Sandhill Cranes and assorted waterfowl in winter
This hotspot is for the stretch of Canal Lane that leads to the Guadalupe River and the canal from Lake Dunlap. It is best birded from your vehicle. The map pin only gives an approximate location, as the road continues for some time before reaching major waterways. Be sure to use flashers if you stop to look at something, and pull off as far as possible without going into the ditch.
