About this Location

Located in a park-like setting with graceful slopes, rolling lawns, and winding paths among ancient trees and plantings, The Springfield Cemetery serves a wide area of western Massachusetts and Connecticut and is considered to be one of the most beautiful cemeteries in New England. It was dedicated and consecrated in 1841 and contains grave sites and monuments of prominent citizens. Stones and tablets dating back to 1664 were moved from Springfield's Old First Church and are now preserved throughout the Cemetery.

The cemetery entrance is at the intersection of Maple Street and Central Street. The entrance road looks like a driveway between two apartment buildings. There are two pillars with plaques that read "Springfield Cemetery." The cemetery is not visible from the street.
