The origin of the "Patagonia Picnic Table Effect" began as one rarity after another was found here in the 1960s and 1970s, starting with Rose-throated Becards, which nested across the street for 40 consecutive years. Five-striped Sparrows were discovered in 1970, Yellow Grosbeak in 1971, then Yellow-green Vireo, Fan-tailed Warbler, Black-capped Gnatcatcher, and a host of other notable birds cemented its reputation as a must-visit location for every birder passing through.
