Gray Hawk, owls
Harshaw Canyon is reached from the northeast part of central Patagonia via Harshaw Avenue which becomes Harshaw Road or Forest Road 58.
The majority of birding is done by making a loop to San Raphael Valley Road and back along Harshaw Creek Road or Forest Road 139. Much of this area has some nice riparian habitat with sycamores and large cottonwoods. Nocturnal birding along this stretch may be productive.
Continuing on Harshaw Road takes one deeper into the mountains and grasslands of some former small settlements such as Harshaw, Washington Camp, Duquesne, and Lochiel. Be prepared when traversing this area as there are no amenities along the way.
